Opposites Attract

(Note to readers: I started this post a while ago, and just decided to post it now.)
I was watching Private Practice today. (I know...you can make fun of me, but I like it.) The episode I was watching was about a couple who fell in love in junior high and had been married for 5 years and were trying to have a baby. The couple went on and on about how they were soul mates because they loved all the same things, had all the same dislikes and even the same allergies. Well...tests were run and turns out they were brother and sister via sperm donors. Gross.
Anyway...this got me thinking about my 6 year marriage. James and I are very different. We are not at all alike. I don't think I am a love expert, but I do love James like crazy. I think it would be really boring to be married to someone that was so similar to you. We really don't like the same movies, either of us would die of boredom if we read the books the other liked. James would rip his ears off if he was forced to listen to the music I liked for longer than a half an hour. (Speaking of...have you checked out his music blog? It is really good. I do like his music.) James is pretty chill and can have a conversation with just about anyone about just about anything. I am not so laid back, and really enjoy a good argument (as long as I win).
James loves sport. I don't mind (limited) football and I love to watch James play hockey, but that is just about where it ends. Although I do love to check out all the sports magazines when they come in the mail and freak him out by memorizing names or stats. This last week I memorized a bunch of prediction stuff for the NFL draft. You should have seen his jaw drop when I started talking about potential trades and defensive ends and all that jazz. Ha ha.
I love to read, sew, garden and cook. James is not so much into any of these things. However...it really works for us. It also makes life interesting. I have done so many things in the last 8 years of knowing James that I never would have expected. I have seen bands I hadn't heard of until I met James, I have tried new food, I have even attended a Superbowl. I really like all the new things I learn when I hang out with James. So, while it is good to have common interests, I think that a couples differences can also make them soul mates. Plus...do you see how handsome he is?

Baby makes 4!

I know it has been a while, but I have been pregnant...does that count as an excuse? I have had people ask if I have given up on my blog and I really have been meaning to post, but when I look at the fall pictures it just doesn't seem that long ago. Time has gone by so fast. (I might not have said that 6 weeks ago when I was a week past my due date.)

I have a chalk board for hanging keys and such in my kitchen and around the same time as my last post I wrote a few "Fall Projects" I hoped to get done. I had a good friend tell me the other day that she was impressed that I was already thinking about fall projects. Haha...I will try to do better at blogging and even though I did finish all the projects on my list last fall, it wouldn't hurt to do a few of them again. ;)
We had a baby! Miles James Brimacombe was born on June 15, 2010 at 9:04 am. We are so happy to have him in our family. The birth was wonderful. It went just how I hoped it would and I am so proud of my body.

If you are looking for a great Midwife or Doula...I know a few wonderful ones!
This is Olive meeting Miles for the first time. She kept saying "My little brother/sister is a boy". We didn't know the sex until he was born.

We are adjusting to life with two pretty well. I was getting worried that Miles didn't like Olive. He would cry whenever she came around. We had a little talk about personal space and that Miles can't see her when she is always right in his face. She backed up a little bit and he has been smiling at her ever since. I think she drives him nuts, but I keep telling him that he will have lots of time to get her back.

Miles is a great baby and things are going so well. We are so happy and hopefully I will post more often.

Fall Update

So..things have been busy and life has been crazy. We had a wonderful summer and are having a great fall. Olive thought growing, painting and carving pumpkins was awesome. I think she is a little morbid. Her favorite color is black. (Notice the painted pumpkin.) If black is ever an option, it is her first choice. She will even say her favorite color is black. Ah well, if I want a project to be colorful I just don't offer black as an option. She is also very creative. James carved her pumpkin with her on Halloween and she declared it the greatest puzzle ever. She played with it for hours punching the pieces out and then putting them back in. What a smart girl.

Jacob and Katie took us up the canyon one Saturday and we took some family pictures. They turned out alright and we had fun.

Here is one of strong Olive and James lifting a huge boulder. Are you impressed?

Olive might be an amazing baker/chef someday. Here she is making pumpkin/cream cheese cupcakes for Grandmas birthday. She also really likes to watch Rachel Ray (and the few other cooking shows we get) with me. Funny girl.

This is a while back, but we found Monarch Caterpillars in Aug/Sept and were able to watch them turn into butterflies. It was pretty cool. Olive really likes the idea of bugs, but close up they make her nervous. The butterfly was no exception. We hope to make this a yearly tradition.

Here are a few other random pictures of Olive and James hanging out. She sure loves her daddy.

Talk about local

Have I mentioned I have a garden? It is wonderful. The past few days lunch and dinner have included things that grew in my own backyard. The pepper garden bed is starting to get very colorful. It is very exciting to check everyday and see what is new. Maybe I will learn to can salsa this weekend. Exciting!

Summer Fun

We were lucky enough to spend time with James family for Ryan and Liz's wedding this summer. We were able to go to Washington State for the weekend of their wedding and then to Canada for their celebration there. It was beautiful and such a nice break from the Utah heat. It was a short trip, but we were able to spend time at Cobourg beach, which we love. Olive was very unsure about it at first, which surprised us because last year she loved it. She wanted us to carry her and I finally had to just set her in the sand and step away. She sat there whining "Dirty, mom, dirty". It took her about 10 min, but after that she couldn't get enough of the dirty sand.

We were also able to pick strawberries. Olive thought it was great until she was full of strawberries and then she thought it was more fun to put the straw that was around the berries in the boxes.
It was a wonderful trip. We are so happy to have Liz as a part of the family. We wish Ryan and Liz were sticking around Utah but are very happy that they found each other.

Olive had a blast with her Grandma and Bawpa and her cousins. We are very sad that we don't get to spend more time with them, but it just makes those memories all the more special. We miss you all very much!

Funny Faces

Okay...I seriously need to post more often. I think about what I want to post and then I start looking at the pictures I have since the last time I posted and I get overwhelmed and give up. Have you seen Olive and how cute she is? I can't choose which of the millions of pictures I take to share. They are all so cute.

So how about these pulling faces pictures that have nothing to do with anything, but they crack me up.

Spring

We are so happy that it is warm. Olive loves being outside and we are loving having a yard to play in. We also have a garden. Olive is not really one for getting dirty, but I am trying to show her it is wonderful to dig in the dirt and take care of our "cute baby plants" as she calls them. She is really getting into it. Now...I just need to teach her to weed.
